The hot runner nozzle tip is an important part of the hot runner system. Plastic injection molding is done by transporting the liquid plastic through a hot runner and then injecting it into a mold via hot runner nozzle tips. The heat transfer in the hot runner nozzle is essential so that the plastic won’t be damaged and hardened. With the development of powder metallurgy technology and the diversification of customer needs, the materials of nozzle tips are constantly optimized to meet their requirements.
TZM is an ideal material used for hot runner nozzle tips compared with copper which is not able to withstand the abrasive plastic and the mechanical loads. It has a particularly high thermal conductivity of 140 W/mK and also has excellent advantages of high-temperature resistance and good corrosion resistance.
TZM molybdenum alloy refers to a molybdenum alloy containing 0.4-0.6% (wt) titanium, 0.08-0.12% (wt) zirconium, and 0.02-0.03% (wt) carbon, also known as a molybdenum-titanium-zirconium alloy.

- High thermal conductivity: an important indicator of a good runner nozzle is thermal conductivity. It has nothing to do with temperature and time. It is related to the temperature difference between the two ends. The better the thermal conductivity, the shorter the time to reach thermal equilibrium. The thermal conductivity of TZM hot runner nozzle tips is up to 140 W/mK which performed much better than many other materials.
- High-temperature resistance: the maximum operating temperature of TZM is up to 450℃ which means TZM hot runner nozzle tips can be applied to most high-temperature environments.
- Good corrosion resistance: The ability of metal materials to resist the corrosive damage of the surrounding medium is called corrosion resistance. The excellent composition, chemical properties, and structure of the TZM make it a good material with corrosion resistance.
- Good mechanical workability: Because of its high thermal conductivity, high temperature and corrosion resistance, high hardness, and good mechanical properties, TZM hot runner nozzle tips perform well in the machinery process and have a long service life.
